Why are inflammatory bowel diseases different in every patient? What research is teaching us.
Inflammatory bowel diseases, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, are complex conditions that do not affect all patients in the same way. In this talk, Dr. Allez will use simple clinical examples to explain why these diseases vary from one person to another. The role of the immune system, the gut microbiome, and how environmental factors shape disease will be explored. How recent research helps in our understanding of these mechanisms, which in turn moves toward more personalized treatments, will also be discussed. The goal is to provide patients with a clearer understanding of their condition and to highlight how ongoing research may improve care in the future.

Our Speaker
Dr. Matthieu Allez is a Professor, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at McGill & the Bruce Kaufman McGill IBD Research Chair.
Dr. Allez completed his residency training in gastroenterology at Université de Paris. He spent two years for a post-doc at Mount Sinai in NY. He was Chief of Gastroenterology at Hopital St Louis in Paris.
His focus in basic research has been in mucosal immunology and immunopathology of inflammatory bowel disease, and more specifically on the role of T cells in mucosal inflammation. He is developing and leading the McGill translational research program in IBD.
